TotalCare - Solutions for Aged Care is a service specially designed for the frail elderly with chronic illness and are living in the community. We provide home care medical and rehabilitation service as well as solutions to improve the quality of chronic illness care for the home stay elders.

TotalCare commenced service in April 2009 and it is one of the services managed by Haven of Hope Christian Service. To respond to the aging population and with the experience the Haven of Hope has, TotalCare is going to fill the service gaps of the elderly care service in the society.

長者強身運動

健身,跟年長的人士總好像拉不上任何的關係,感覺似是一種很劇烈的運動,並不適合長者進行。不過事實上,只要選擇合宜,運動時加倍小心及留意自己身體 的長期問題,健身中心裡亦有不少的運動儀器,可以為年長人士的身體帶來很多好處。而政府康文署也會舉辦不同的體適能課程,可以較低價的價錢去學到部份健身儀器的正確用法,亦可享用該署的健身室,比市面大型的健身中心更划算。

 儀器介紹

推腳器、踏步機: 可強化下肢四頭肌、臀大肌的力量,如使用正確,比其他的膝部運動所帶給膝關節的壓力會較少。四頭肌、臀大肌對日常步行、上落樓梯十分重要,對於退化性關節炎的預防及保養亦有十分重要的作用。但要注意運動時切勿完全伸直雙膝及過份屈曲膝部,如將膝蓋的屈伸動作大約分成4等份的活動幅度,建議只在中間的2份幅度運動。

 拉背機: 很多長者容易有圓肩的情況,原因多為中背闊肌力量不足,被前面的胸肌將肩膀向前拉,引致肩頸痛,嚴重的更會引致上臂麻痺,影響心肺功能。除進行合適的 拉筋運動外,訓練背闊肌亦可改善姿勢的問題。除外觀因素,對改善頸痛及肩膀痛,心肺的正常擴展亦有良好的影響。

 跑步機、健身單車: 選取合適的難度進行,可訓練心肺功能,對心肺耐力不足,及整天「唔夠氣」的人很有幫助,但使用跑步機必須使用安全停機帶,而且開始時需選取較慢的速度,再慢慢加快,亦可選擇微斜的設定;如日常需要使用助行器具的長者,需加倍注意平衡問題。

 但各位必須注意,運動前應先徵詢醫生及治療帥的意見,並且進行健身運動時要有健身教練的正確指導,以確安全,這樣長者才可以在安全的情況下,個個成為健美的長者﹗

退化性膝關節炎

一提到老友記夢寐以求的退休生活,相信大家第一時間會想到令人頭痛的巨款 ─「退休金」。其實,還有一樣東西比豐足的退休金更為重要,那就是可以讓您的退休生活得以自由、得以享受的關鍵 ─ 健康的膝關節。
  退化性膝關節炎是大多數人於50歲後最常見的膝關節問題。退化性膝關節炎主要的成因,包括有以下幾種:
  • 1. 自然退化
膝關節內的作潤滑功能的關節液隨著年齡增長而減少,加上軟組織因長年累月的活動而磨損
  • 2. 關節負苛過重
常見於體重過高及曾經長期攜帶重物的人士
  • 3. 不正確姿勢
長期站立、蹲下及上落樓梯等的姿勢,都會增加患有膝關節炎的風險
  • 4. 創傷
膝關節如曾經骨折、韌帶拉傷及扭傷等都會加速軟組織退化 患者膝蓋通常於步行時感到痛楚,並隨的可能會有紅、腫、熱、痛的發炎症狀。經醫生診斷後,大多從三大方向作治療:藥物治療、物理治療及手術治療。一般情況之下,治療方法都是以藥物配合物理治療,而手術治療通常適用於嚴重的患者。 物理治療是透過電療、手法治療及復康運動等介入方法,讓患者減輕痛楚、舒緩關節僵硬及防止病情進一步惡化。與此同時,物理治療師會因應患者致病的成因,制定適當的治療計劃,例如為體重過高者制定控制體重的計劃;另外亦會開設小組教授一些日常生活技巧及讓有相類似情況的患者可分享自身的經驗,從而減少復發的機會。 愈早正視問題,康復的機會及成效就愈大!事不宜遲,請及早向醫生或物理治療師查詢。為保雙膝,以防「雙失」 ─ 失去健康的膝關節及失去自由自在的退休生活。
